VDAS-1.0 is a unique system for production defect testing of translucent corrugated PVC tubes.
The system developed is based on the most recent visual data processing technologies and makes use of an intelligent hardware. The solution consists of two parts: hardware and software. The hardware can be easily integrated into an already existing production process and is compact. An intelligent light source and unique video data processing tools allow the hardware to be integrated into a production process regardless of the level of illumination. The software part of VDAS is specialized and is designed for analyzing the quality of cast translucent PVC tubes. The software makes use of the newest visual data processing technologies to analyze dark defects of the tube and classify them on the basis of a number of properties such as length, width, size and darkness of a defect. Then images acquired from a video camera are processed using filters that make it possible to identify extremely small defects. The software features a graphical user interface allowing to monitor detected defects in real time, change system settings, save images on a computer for later use. It can be used by connecting to the system both directly and via remote network.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
A moving corrugated tube is being monitored by a video camera and the images it captures are transmitted to a user’s computer. Digital images captured by the digital camera are processed using digital filters. Later software analyzes any defects found in the image and evaluates their basic properties. The user is able to filter defects by three basic properties: minimal size, maximal size and darkness of a defect.
If the system detects a defect, a digital signal is transmitted through the input/output module to the production process controller. Defect data and their analysis is stored on a user’s computer.
