It is an intelligent and extremely accurate 3D thickness measurement system using a unique laser triangulation technology to measure thickness of bituminous membrane.
Featuring flexibility intelligent cameras provide and a powerful 3D image processing mechanism, this solution enables to take accurate thickness measurements of a membrane moving on the shaft. The system features a data processing computer, linear laser and digital camera modules. One module is a master while the other is a slave. With a help of linear lasers the system can be used to measure even uneven surfaces. The system uses a standard PC architecture, therefore it is possible to integrate new PC applications with little effort, which allows to optimize the system whenever a need arises. This intelligent 3D thickness measurement system has all necessary standard connection ports for external peripheral devices (RS-232, keyboard, mouse and VGA).
Images are captured using a progressive scan black-and-white FireWire camera with a trigger and 1/4” CCD. The visual data processing module offers many very efficient 3D image processing tools such as profile control, stream measuring, etc.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
Using a laser, a horizontal line is formed on the surface of a membrane moving on a shaft. Simultaneously, the position of the laser beam is being monitored by a video camera from a different angle. The thickness of the membrane being monitored is measured using the triangulation method as the laser beam keeps changing its position.
This system has two different modifications. In one case, the camera has an inbuilt computer and functions like a master camera in a multi-camera system. In the second case, the camera does not have an inbuilt computer and is used as a slave monitoring point in a multi-camera system; or process images using an external user’s computer, in a system having a single monitoring point. In the latter case, the computer must have the system’s software installed on it. Results, then, can be transmitted directly to a programmable logic controller (PLC) or over an Ethernet network.
